Why work with me?

Before you choose to work with a sport psychology practitioner it is understandable that you would want to know more about them. Below are some of my professional values as well as the approaches I take to my work.

My Values

Working with the Person as well as the Performer

Our personalities are like jigsaws, there are so many pieces that make up one whole. I believe to really help someone it is important to recognise that they are a person, as well as an athlete or an exerciser, and try to learn about the other aspects of their identity.

Developing skills for life

One of my greatest passions is using sport and exercise psychology to have greater impacts on one’s life. Skills like communication, organisation, team-work, and confidence can all be learned through sport but used in every facet of one’s life. This is especially relevant in youth athletes.

Sport psychology is for everyone

While a lot of my work is with athletes, I believe sport and exercise psychology is for everyone. If you are competing to win an Olympic gold medal, that is important. If you are trying to run your first 5km, that is important. All goals are relevant, important and can be achieved with help from sport psychology.

Working hard for others

Working with a sport psychology practitioner requires trust and a willingness to be open. It is important to me to repay the trust clients give me by working hard to help them achieve their goals.

Be myself

This is as much a personal value as a professional one. I aim to always be genuine and authentic with the people I work with. I want people to feel comfortable that they are getting to know the real me through our work together.

My Approach

Spend time with the client

During my years of practice the biggest lesson I have learnt is to be there. By spending time with a person or team I can get to know them, watch them train and compete, and let them know that I’m invested in our work together.

Create the right environment

For an athlete to thrive they need to be in an environment where they feel safe to take risks, embrace mistakes, and step outside their comfort zone. I work with coaches, athletes, and other support staff to help create environments where people feel they are equally supported and challenged.

Tailor my approach

Every team, coach and athlete will have individual strengths and areas for improvement. I spend time getting to know the people I work with so that the work I deliver is tailored specifically to them, whether this is a workshop, a one to one consultation or a longer piece of work.

Getting Creative

One of things I enjoy most about sport psychology is the capacity to be creative in its delivery. I like to work with coaches and athletes to develop methods of delivery that work for them, whether that be through workshops, presentations, worksheets, coach education, training sessions or via social media.
