Great performance requires not only tactical, technical and physical abilities but the ability to mentally excel. Long after we have mastered the basic technical skills of our sport we still struggle to perform at our very best when we need to. Why is this? Quite often athletes of all levels spend hours practicing the technical and tactical skills need for their sport but they fail to work on their mental skills like confidence, motivation, resilience. Improving our mental skills can give us the edge when we need to stay sharp, to stay confident, to win.

About Me
My name is Roisin Kelly. All my life I have been interested in sport. I wanted to try as many sports as I could including camogie, dancing, hockey and rugby. I was never the naturally gifted child that could turn their hand to any sport they wanted but I was always the child who would come of the pitch exhausted, after working as hard as I could! For me the most enjoyable part of sport and exercise is being active and learning as many new skills as I can.

I studied Psychology for my Undergraduate degree and eventually learned that I could combine my love of sport and my desire to help people through sport and exercise psychology. This led me to do my Masters at Loughborough University and now my BPS stage 2 training to become a registered sport and exercise psychologist.

I’m a strong believer that sport and exercise psychology is for everyone. Whether you are trying to compete internationally, teach the kids you coach how to become mentally strong or you just want to gain the motivation to go to the gym for the first time. Sport and exercise psychology can help you.
